Erica Sher
Erica Sher was a mostly self-taught artist. Most of her art was done using a ten-in-one-color pen, a BIC pen, or pens she liked to swipe from her local bank branch.
When it came time to pick a university, Erica's mom said that she would not pay for Erica to get an art degree, so of course Erica made sure she went to school to pursue art. She attended the University of Colorado Boulder where she convinced the University to create a major for her. Erica’s mom will maintain that she was right, as Erica had to go back to school to pursue a Master’s Degree in order to become what Erica would always refer to as, “gainfully employed.”
To our knowledge, Erica's exhaustive use of pen-only art started out of extreme boredom during her classes, and evolved into what you see on the walls today. Her muse was her son, Quintin.
Most of the drawings on display are done only in pen, with a select few experimental mixed media. Erica became an art teacher and did in fact use her art degree, though she rarely displayed her own art. While Erica did not do commissioned work, she occasionally wondered if her art would ever live on anyone's walls, albeit seemingly unimaginable to her. Until today. If any of the displayed pennings speak to you, Erica's unique talent and memory can warm your home and help turn her figment of a dream into reality. Rarely one to accept praise, Erica would be, “just tickled” that your interest in her art may help her become the local artist she never thought she would be but always should have been.

What you may not know is that before she passed, Erica had been diagnosed with epilepsy. While she was managing her epilepsy, the medication she was prescribed unknowingly caused side effects that affected her mental health. In memory of Erica and through her legacy, the Sher Family wants to raise awareness about the importance of understanding the side effects of any medication. We encourage you to advocate for yourself or someone you know when using medications that may impact mental health.
